A Waverly man has been hospitalized in Columbus after being seriously injured in a crash about 9:34 a.m. Tuesday.

Ohio State Highway Patrol Chillicothe Post Commander Lt. Mike Crispen said that 26-year-old Nicholas R. Kelley was in critical condition Tuesday at The Ohio State University Medical Center after he reportedly drove a 2004 Chevy Cobalt into the rear of a 1996 Peterbilt semi tractor-trailer as it was attempting to turn from U.S. 23 onto a private driveway.

Crispen said both vehicles were southbound on U.S. 23 at the time the crash occurred, and the car drove up under the truck, coming to rest under the trailer.

The driver of the semi, Ross K. Price, 53, of Pomeroy was not injured in the wreck.

“Kelley was med-flighted directly from the crash scene to OSU Medical Center,” Crispen said. “At last check, he was in critical condition.”

An OSU Medical Center spokeswoman said his name had not as yet been entered into the system, as he had just arrived hours before.

Crispen said the crash occurred near Glockner Oil Company, and 23 South was closed for nearly two hours at the accident scene.
