Crash kills 1, injures 4 in Waverly

One man is dead and four people were injured in a two-vehicle crash Thursday evening on U.S. 23 in Waverly.

According to the Ohio State Highway Patrol, Eric Guseman, 42, of Athens was driving a 1993 Ford Escort north on U.S. 23 Thursday, with passengers Craig Mosier, 53, of Chillicothe, and David Rabourn, 43, of Chillicothe. At the same time, Edwin Benner, 76, of Lucasville, was traveling south on U.S. 23, with passenger Laura Benner, 76, of Lucasville.

At 8:14 p.m., near Mile Post 14 on U.S. 23, Benner’s vehicle moved into the northbound lanes and struck Guseman’s vehicle.

Rabourn was pronounced dead at the scene.

The four surviving people were each taken to Pike Community Hospital, and were all later transported to Grant Medical Center by Life EMS Ground.

The crash remains under investigation.
