The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office and State Fire Marshal are investigating a fatal vehicle fire that occurred Sunday night.
According to the State Fire Marshal’s Office, the fire was reported at about 9:30 p.m. on Sunday, on Millers Run Road, in Lucasville. The Scioto County Sheriff’s Office reported that Valley Township Fire Department responded to the call.
Because of the condition of the body a positive identification had not been made at press time.
“The Division of State Fire Marshal cannot confirm the identity of the victim at this time,” Shane Cartmill, Public Information Officer for the State Fire Marshal’s Office said. “We are waiting for additional information from the office of the coroner. We will continue to look into the case, but that information is extremely important to our process.”
Reports say the body was found inside the vehicle, described only as a newer-model Chevrolet pickup truck.
“I was called concerning a death out on Millers Run Road,” said Chief Deputy Scioto County Coroner Dr. Wayne Wheeler. “And they called the State Fire marshal and the body has been sent for autopsy to a forensic examiner.”
It is believed the body was taken to the Montgomery County Coroner’s Office.
At this time, the cause of the fire and cause of death remain unknown. Investigators also do not know if the fire was accidental or intentional, and spent Monday morning examining the vehicle.
