At a time when our political parties seem to disagree on everything, it is not only a pleasure but indeed a reason to celebrate when our local political parties come to agreement on a matter of import to our community.

Recently, both the county Democratic and Republican central committees heartily endorsed the "Vote YES for YOUR Library" campaign (for a 1-mill levy) to make up for the 30 percent loss in state funding. My sincere appreciation to the elected committee members of our local Democratic and Republican parties.

This 1-mill levy will allow our county library system to expand hours at various branches (cut drastically when the state cut funding) and provide the services many throughout our county have come to expect from a first-class library system.

I heartily encourage all to vote for our Public Library in the upcoming Nov. 2 general election and, as well, encourage donations to the cause; which may be sent (and payable) to: "Vote YES for Your Library"; P.O. Box 1903; Portsmouth, OH 45662-1903.
