The Shawnee State Golf Team tied for second out of five teams at the Bluegrass Invitational hosted by Georgetown College Monday and Tuesday. The University of the Pikeville won the Invitational with a team score of 634. Shawnee State tied with host Georgetown with a team score of 642. Pikeville’s Casey Castle was meet medalist with a two day total of 147.
Freshman Kyle Burchett of Lucasville led the Bears with a score of 157 (82+75), while junior Justin Arnold shot a two day total of 160 (86+74). Freshman Rob Pell shot 161 (79+82) and freshman Zach Bedard of Portsmouth shot 164 (86+78). Rounding out the Bears’ top 5 is sophomore Richie Bechtol, who scored 172 (87+85).
Bears edged by Midway
The Shawnee State Tennis Team fell to Midway College 5-4 on Tuesday afternoon to close out the regular season.
In singles action, junior Ashley O’Neill won No. 3 action 7-6, 6-4 and sophomore Crystal Carpenter of Portsmouth won No. 5 play 6-3, 6-2.
O’Neill teammed up with freshman Shelbie Wulfekamp to win No. 2 doubles 9-8. Carpenter and freshman Jennifer Hoag won No. 3 doubles 8-1.
Shawnee State will face Campbellsville in the first round of the MSC Tournament on Friday at 8:30 a.m. at the Boone Tennis Center in Lexington, KY.
