The seven Catholic churches in Scioto County have come together to host one vacation Bible school that will take place at Holy Redeemer Activity Center from July 9 through July 13.

This is the first time the churches have collaborated for such an event.

“The idea came from a deanery meeting. The deanery board is made up of representatives from each Scioto County Catholic church. Father Joseph Yoakum is the dean of the deanery,” said Julie VanHoose, co-coordinator of the deanery wide vacation Bible school. “At the April meeting he brought up the idea of having a deanery wide vacation Bible school and we’ve never done that.”

Theresa Metzler, co-coordinator of the VBS, said one of the most uplifting and encouraging things for her has been the number of volunteers who have come forward to help.

“The response has been very positive and we are very encouraged by that. We have all of the churches represented in the planning process as well,” Metzler said.

The theme for this year’s VBS is Sky: Everything is Possible With God.

“The kids will travel around to the different stations, learning how to trust God in different aspects, through games, scripture and many other ways,” VanHoose said.

She said all of the activities will take place from 5:30 to 8 p.m. nightly.
