Alva Brickey, 83

Alva Deek Brickey, 83, of Portsmouth died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at SOMC Hospice. He was born Jan. 31, 1930, at Portsmouth, the son of the late Nelson and Laura Smith Brickey. Alva was retired from the West Portsmouth School System, a veteran of the US Army and a famous square dance caller.

He is survived by his wife Doris Bricker Brickey three sons; Charles (Babs) Brickey of Grove City, Daryl (Sharon) Brickey of West Portsmouth and Richard Brickey of Portsmouth; eight grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren, three sisters.

Naomi Fife, Wayonna Brickey, Iona Brickey and one brother Nelson Brickey Jr. He was also preceded in death by a sister Mary Lou Turner, a brother Willard Lake Brickey and a daughter Tammy Brickey.

Funeral services will be 1 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 19, 2013, at Melcher Funeral Home Burial will be at Scioto Burial Park, with Military graveside rites by James Dickey Post American Legion. Friends may call Friday, Jan. 18, 2013, at Melcher Funeral Home from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday from 12:30 p.m. to 1 p.m.
