The Area Agency on Aging District 7 held its 25th annual appreciation brunch on Monday at the SOMC Friends Center to give an update on the agency and honor their volunteers.

“It’s been a wonderful year and the reason it’s been so wonderful is the people in this room,” said Pamela Matura, AAA7 executive director. “Over the last year we’ve had some major things happen and we’ve also had our fair share of challenges. It’s been said that, without challenge there can be no opportunity.”

She said out of those challenges the agency has developed some new programs, including one for area veterans and another putting nurses in area hospitals for the care of older adults.

Matura said AAA7 received a grant from the federal government from the centers for Medicaid and Medicare to fund the nursing program.

AAA7 administers programs for the elderly funded by the state and federal governments. Federal funds under the Older Americans Act and the Health Care Financing Administration, as well as all state funds, are received through the Ohio Department of Aging. AAA7 consists of Adams, Brown, Gallia, Highland, Jackson, Lawrence, Pike, Ross, Scioto and Vinton counties.
