Extension service announces queen contest

Applications are now available for the Scioto County Junior Fair Queen contest. The contest is open to Scioto County girls, between 16 to 19 years of age, as of Jan. 1. Contestants must be a member or an alumnus of one or more of the organizations represented by the Junior Fair Board — 4-H, Girl Scouts, FCCLA, FFA and VICA.

Applications are available at the Scioto County Extension Office, Scioto County Courthouse, Room 7, 602 Seventh St., or on the Web site http://scioto.osu.edu/4h/4h.htm and are due June 1, 2010.

The contest will be held at 6 p.m. June 22 at the Scioto County Welcome Center, 342 Second St. A $2 per person or $7 per family donation would be appreciated.

Fire department tests warning siren

The Porter Township Fire Department will be testing its storm warning siren at 7:30 p.m. on the first Tuesday of every month during tornado season through July. The test will consist of a three-minute solid blast. For those who have any questions call the station.

Mowing season begins

Trustees June Maynard, Emma Ruth Floyd and Kim Hardin-Bonzo of the old Siloam Cemetery and the Hardin Addition to the old cemetery need assistance from the family and friends of those who are buried in the cemetery. Road closures are announced

Henley Comstock Road, County Road 44 in Union Township, will be closed from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, located 3.57 miles from Ohio 73, 2.38 miles from Henley Deemer and 315 feet from Ohio 348. The Scioto County Engineer’s Crews will be replacing a concrete culvert pipe.

Schwamberger Road, County Road 309 in Vernon Township, will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Wednesday, located 0.90 mile from Lick Run Lyra and 0.07 mile from Poplar Fork Road. The Scioto County Engineer’s Crews will be replacing a concrete culvert pipe.

Turkey Foot Road, County Road 5 in Vernon Township, will be closed from 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday, located 2.58 miles from Ohio 140, 1.78 miles from Lick Run Lyra and 0.93 mile from Germany Hollow. The Scioto County Engineers Crews will be replacing a concrete culvert pipe.
