Two Portsmouth teenagers were injured in the crash of a 2006 Ford Mustang at Fourth and Gay streets on Wednesday. Michael Ryan Jamison, 18, of Stout, a passenger in the car, was first taken to Southern Ohio Medical Center before being flown by medical helicopter to Grant Medical Center in Columbus. According to police Thursday morning, Jamison was in stable condition in the intensive care unit.

The driver of the vehicle, James L. Compton, 18, of McDermott was taken to SOMC, where he was being treated.

Officers said Compton was traveling at an apparent high rate of speed coming off Third Street, and lost control of the car, crashing into a utility pole. Officers said Portsmouth citizen Bob Gambill was the first person at the scene and assisted the passenger.
