Genesis free movie night, Saturday

Genesis, on Gallia Street in New Boston, will have a free public showing of the movie “Beetlejuice” in their parking lot on Saturday, beginning at dusk. There will also be concessions available for sale — such chili boats, popcorn and hot dogs. All money raised from the concessions will go to benefit the Genesis Relay for Life team. Everyone is invited, but people are encouraged to bring their own chairs and blankets.

Children’s flu clinic is Oct. 23

Our Lady of Bellefonte Hospital (OLBH) and Tri-State Pediatrics will conduct the fifth annual children’s flu clinic from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, in the lobby of Bellefonte Centre (1000 Ashland Drive) on the campus of OLBH in Russell, Ky.

The clinic will offer Flumist, a nasal spray vaccine that is easier to administer to some children. Flu vaccine is recommended for children ages six months to 18 years regardless of whether a child has other chronic conditions.

The cost of the vaccination is $20 for the traditional vaccine and $25 for Flumist.

Bear Care Health Fair is Oct. 26

Shawnee State University and Southern Ohio Medical Center, are joining forces to offer the annual Bear Care Health Fair at Shawnee State University. The event will be held 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26, in the Baxter Lounge on the main floor of the University Center. The event is open to SSU students, faculty and staff.

The health fair, designed to promote wellness among SSU students, faculty and staff, will make free testing available for blood sugar, body fat, strength, blood pressure, oximetry, breathing, anemia and blood type. The majority of tests will be performed by SSU students who are in the nursing or med lab programs.

In addition, free information on cardiac risk counseling, mental health, substance abuse, smoking cessation, nutrition, diabetes, meningitis, fitness, arthritis, eating disorders, steroids/supplements, asthma education, AIDS/ STD, domestic violence, sexual assault, breast cancer, disabilities and deaf services.

Flu shots will be available for $20, massages for $5, and cholesterol testing for $5 for those with a valid Shawnee State University I.D.

Ohio University Southern presents legend

Are you afraid of ghosts? Prove it! Bring your friends at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 23, to Lake Vesuvius for a free night of spooky storytelling of “The Legend of Sleepy Hollow” narrated by Associate Professor of Communications, David Lucas, Ph.D. Begin your journey at the boat dock area parking lot and be escorted to the Rock House at the Lake Vesuvius Recreation area by the Grim Reaper on Jack-o’-lantern Trail in Wayne National Forest. Bring your own blanket or chair if you dare.

The music will be provided by Roger Smith, a Greenup County (Ky.) singer-songwriter. Music will begins at 6:30 p.m., and storytelling begins at dark.
