Parade salutes God and country

Salute to God and Country Parade will be at 11 a.m. today. Parade lineup will start at 10:15 a.m. at the Old Gallia Pike side of the flea market in Wheelersburg. The parade route will be Old Gallia Pike to Christian Baptist Campgrounds, on the corner of Spring Street and Old Gallia Pike.

A gospel sing will begin at noon, and will feature Lisa Jordan, Roger's Heritage, Kamer Family, Witness, Libbey Family, Brian Baer and Friends, Nathan Davis and others.

Concessions will be available.

Otway church hosts carnival is today

Otway Christian Union Church will host a carnival from 2 to 6 p.m. today. Activities will include games, cake walk, food, face painting, inflatables, singing and preaching.

A cornhole tournament will begin at 3 p.m., and registration will be from 2 to 2:30 p.m.

All proceeds will be donated to Otway Park.

Choir to present patriotic cantata

The choir of Nauvoo United Methodist Church will present the patriotic cantata, "God Bless the USA," at 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Sunday. It will be an audio/visual celebration of our country's spiritual heritage, and will include audience participation. All veterans and active duty military service people will be recognized during the service, and are invited to attend. All those in attendance are encouraged to wear red, white and blue clothing. Be sure to come and bring a friend.

Co-op Day is Sunday

A Co-op (unity) Day will be celebrated Sunday, at Pleasant Green Baptist Church. The theme will be "Serving Others Through Humility." Elder Jackie Lisath, of New Jerusalem Christian Center in Ironton, will be the speaker for the 11 a.m. service Sunday. Elder Vincent Kennedy, of Living Faith Temple, will be the speaker at 4 p.m. Sunday.

Parish plans fellowship

During June, the two churches of Morning Star Presbyterian Parish, First and Second Presbyterian, have been sharing a joint Christian education hour at 10 a.m. Sunday, at First Presbyterian Church, 221 Court St.

Following Christian education, both churches will share a combined worship service, which begins at 11 a.m., with the Rev. Stanley N. Webster preaching. Following worship, there will be a First on the Fifth for Fellowship for both congregations in Mary Elizabeth Schwartz Hall. This includes a carry-in dinner and a special activity for the youth.

During July, the congregations will share Christian education and worship services at Second Presbyterian Church.

Soccer camp is planned

Cook Road Baptist Church, 1101 Cook Road, Lucasville, will have a soccer camp for youth ages 5 to 13, across from Valley Elementary School on two practice fields, from 10 to 11 a.m., Monday through Wednesday. Also, there will be a Backyard Bible Club meeting from 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at the church. Anyone needing transportation may call the church at (740) 259-5911, or Debbie Smith at (740) 259-0275. Everyone is invited. Nursery will be provided. Larry Parks is the pastor.
