"An Hour of Sacred Song" is a concert of sacred music honoring the memory of Charles P. Varney and benefiting the music scholarship which bears his name.  Mr. Varney was a long-time choral music educator in the Wheelersburg Local and Portsmouth City School Districts, the conductor of the Portsmouth Area Male Chorus and the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra Chorale, a church musician, and a baritone soloist in the Portsmouth Area.  

The concert will feature selections by the Portsmouth Symphony Orchestra Chorale under the direction of Justin Wiget, the Chancel Choir of Second Presbyterian Church under the direction of Dr. Stanley E. Workman, Jr., and several vocal soloists from the Portsmouth area.   

An offering will be received to benefit the Charles P. and Geneva Varney Scholarship Fund c/o the Scioto Foundation.  The scholarship will be awarded to area residents who are or who will be attending an accredited school of music to major in vocal music performance/education or music therapy.
