Portsmouth Peewee Football Sign Ups
The Portsmouth Peewee football sign ups will take place July 8th and 9th from 6-9 p.m., and July 15 and 16 from 6-8 p.m., at the Portsmouth Elementary School.
Southern Ohio Basketball Academy
The Southern Ohio Basketball Academy will take place at the McGraw League facilities on State Route 140 in Sociotoville on July 16, 17 and 18. The camp, opened to all boys and girls grades K-6 is designed to develop and teach fundamental basketball skills. Daily personal instruction and stations will focus on dribbling, ball handling, shooting, rebounding and defensive techniques. Campers will compete on teams and as individuals in order to apply their individual skills to the team concept. The cost of the camp is $40 for pre-registered campers, or $50 the first day of camp. Every camper will receive a camp T-shirt and a basketball, along with other gifts from local sponsors. 18th annual Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K Run and Walk
The 18th annual Jackson County Freedom Fest 5K Run and Walk will be held on Friday, July 4 and will take place through the business district and western residential section of Jackson.
The event will begin at 9 a.m. at Manpower Park on East Main Street, across from the Jackson Square Shopping Center and Krogers. Entry fee is $20 for pre-registration at TriStateRacer.com and $25 the day of the race.
Proceeds will go toward the sponsoring of community events by the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce. All participants will receive newly designed dry-weave sports festival T-shirts. Plaques will be awarded to the top three male and female finishers and medals will be given to the top three finishers in all age divisions, outside of those winnings plaques, in the male and female categories.
There will also be a one-mile walk starting simultaneously with the 5K run. Those wanting to participate in the walk, which has no registration fee, may purchase a T-shirt for $10.

Nike Basketball Camp at Ironton High School
Ironton High School will once again host Nike Basketball Camp July 7-11. Matt Wilson, a Nike Basketball training specialists, will be leading one week of complete skills camp for boys, ages 9 to 17, with a focus on developing and refining players’ fundamental basketball skills. The camp will also include in-depth discussions of basketball principles, styles of play and tendencies as well as 1-on-1, 2-on-2 and 3-on-3 tournaments.

Spartan Swim Club Youth Stroke Camps at Shawnee State University
The Spartan Swim Club will be hosting its youth stroke camps July 7-10 at Shawnee State University Warsaw Natatorium. The stroke camp is designed to help kids in the area improve their swimming skills.
The camp will run from 4:45 p.m. to 6:45 p.m. and will be held at the Shawnee State University Warsaw Natatorium. Participants can register for a day or the whole week. If you do not pre-register, you may register at the door for $20 per day.

Circleville Dog Days 5K Road Race
The 13th annual Circleville Dog Days 5K Road Race presented by Red Barn will be held Saturday, August 2 at 9 a.m. beginning and ending at Circleville High School. Numerous door prizes will be awarded, water and splits will be available on the course, and refreshments will be available at the finish. If you are interested in running, print an entry form at www.circlevillexc.com or register the day of the race from 7:15 a.m. to 8:45 a.m. There is a $15 preregistration fee ($20 on race day), and at least the first 150 registered will receive a free T-shirt.
