The Waverly Post 142 Shockers won a double header Saturday after blanking Hillsboro Post 129 in both contest.
The first game was seemingly over in the first inning as the Shockers put a ten spot on the board and won by a final of 10-0. Brady Johnson picked up the victory, his first of the young campaign. Johnson pitched five innings, allowing three hits while striking out seven batters.
Nathan Parks lead Waverly’s offense as he went 2-for 2 with 2 RBIs. Waverly Post 142 coach Jonathan Teeters was pleased with his team’s performance but realized his squad was lackadaisical after the ten-run first inning.
“We just jumped out on them right out of the gate,” Teeters said. “We kind of got complacent but that’s hard not to do after scoring 10 in the first. Brady threw a great game out there for us, he was in the zone.”
In the second game, the script was written in a similar fashion. Seth Jenkins picked up the win after working four innings. The starting pitcher didn’t allow a run on five hits while striking out three batters. Jenkins faced command problems at certain points as he walks three hitters but the starting pitcher was able to advert damage throughout the contest.
“Seth tossed a good game for us,” Teeters said. “He’s getting where he needs to be … “
The Shockers were able to score six runs in the second game thanks to Portsmouth’s Sky Oliver who was 3-for-4 at the plate. Minford’s Levi Jenkins also had a solid game going 1-for-2 with an RBI.
With the sweep, Waverly Post 142 improved it’s record to 4-1 on the season and 3-1 in Region 5.
“Anytime you can sweep a double-header it’s a good day,” Teeters said.
The Shockers will host Circleville Post 134 Monday.
