CIRCLEVILLE, Ohio — The Shawnee Marksmen won the 2014 Roundtown Classic at Barthelmas Park on July 20 in Cirlceville. In the Roundtown Classic pool play games, the Marksmen beat the Ohio Dawgs 9-1 and the Chillicothe Vipers 11-2 to earn the second overall seed in the tournament. In the Championship round, the Marksmen beat the Ohio Dawgs 5-1, Kingston Carnage 16-0 and then beat the number one seed, Springfield Trojans 7-2 in the championship game. Dakota Dodds was the star on the mound, throwing only 31 pitches in a four-inning, no-hit shutout against the Carnage. He then pitched four shutout innings in the championship game against Springfield.
The Marksmen ended their 2014 season with a 28-7 overall record. They entered five tournaments, winning four and finishing in second place in the fifth.
Players for the Marksmen are from various schools in the area. The full-time Marksmen players are: Dakota Dodds, Bradley McCleese, Reece Whitley, Clay Cottle, Tanner Richards, Shaden Malone are from Clay. Elijah Voglesong-Lewis, Collin Coriell, Mathew Risner and Cole Ratcliff are from Minford. Aaron Jolly is from Wheelersburg and Bryce Carley is from Ashland, KY. Other players that played throughout the season are Gage Salyers (Wheelersburg), Max Suter (Minford) and Jaden Jessee (Valley).
