Shawnee State men’s cross country and track has announced the signing of Fairland High School’s Chad McComas. McComas joins quite a number of Fairland Dragons as Joe Stewart, Ryan Stewart, Logan Rowe, Sydney Pettit and Megan Ashton each attended Fairland before becoming members of the Bears’ running teams. Fairland High School is coached by the father of current Shawnee State Assistant Coach Chuck Wentz.
At Fairland, McComas was a two-time Ohio High School Division II State Meet qualifier. During this past fall, McComas placed 82nd overall at the state meet with a time of 17:08. He placed 85th with a time of 17:27 during his junior state championships. As a sophomore, Fairland placed fifth as a team at the state meet.
During his regional competitions, McComas placed 14th this past fall and 17th as a junior. He ran a high school personal best of 16:48 during his junior season. In total, McComas earned four letters in cross country during his high school career.
“We are excited to have Chad on the team,” explained Head Coach Eric Putnam. “I feel like he has a ton of room to grow and will continue to improve once he gets some college training under him.”
In addition to his high school athletic accomplishments, McComas also competed in the District Science Fair and a member of 4-H club. He is the son of Dina and Randy Thompson. McComas plans to major in Biology while at Shawnee State.
