Laken Smith buried an 18-footer with 15 seconds remaining as No. 9 Waverly defeated No. 8 Logan Elm 43-41 in a Division II Southeast Sectional Quarterfinal at Zane Trace.


Smith led all scorers with 13 points and seven rebounds. Hannah Martin added eight points and Bri Wiget finished with seven steals in the win.


The Tigers advance to Wednesday’s semifinal against No. 1 Jackson.

Oak Hill 39, South Webster 37

Merill Melvin’s jumper from the elbow at the buzzer gave host Oak Hill a 39-37 SOC II win Monday night over South Webster and the conference title outright.


Leanna Adkins led all scorers with 20 and Abby Haislop added 11 in the victory. The Jeeps were paced by Kacie Hall with 15 points, all in the first half.


South Webster travels Tuesday to Northwest while Oak Hill entertains West Thursday to finish conference play for both teams.

Minford 53, West 40

With Carrie Wynn on the bench nursing a lower-body injury, Kylie Berry and Emma Shepherd filled the void as Minford, which went 18-of-22 from the free throw line, earned a 53-40 SOC II home win Monday over West.

Berry led all scorers with 19 points and Shepherd added 13. Cammie Oiler paced the Senators with 14 points and Taylor Conley finished with 13.

No. 7 West takes on No. 10 Adena in a Division III Southeast Sectional Semifinal at Valley then Oak Hill Thursday to complete SOC II play. The Falcons are done with the regular season and, as the No. 8 seed, will take on No. 9 Portsmouth Wednesday in a Division III Southeast Sectional Semifinal at Rock Hill.

Clay 62, Notre Dame 44

Emily Widdowson was one of three players for Clay to reach double figures as the Panthers defeated homestanding Notre Dame 62-44 in Monday’s SOC I play.

Widdowson led all scorers with 29 points while Lexie Gilliland’s stat-stuffing night included 11 points, eight blocks and six rebounds for Clay. Katie Redding added 11 points and 11 rebounds in the victory.

Brooke Pierron’s 20 points was the team-high for the Titans. No. 4 Notre Dame plays No. 5 Western Thursday in a Division IV Southeast Sectional Final at Northwest. The No. 2 Panthers wait until Saturday’s sectional final to play either No. 10 Paint Valley or No. 7 Leesburg Fairfield at Northwest.

Peebles 62, West Union 51

For the sixth-straight season, Peebles has won at least 10 SHAC games and the Indians reached the mark Monday with a 62-51 home win over West Union.

Beau Justice led all scorers with 28 points while Cody Ireton added 16 points and 12 rebounds. Peebles has three more home games this week as Piketon visits for a nonconference game Tuesday, Fayetteville-Perry comes Friday and Sardinia Eastern’s trip Saturday could be for the conference crown.
