J.D. Widdig helped Wheelersburg bounce back from Friday night’s 50-41 loss at Oak Hill as the Pirates upended homestanding Northwest 57-39 in Saturday’s SOC II contest.


Widdig led the victors with 15 points while Dylan Miller added 14 and Brandan Adams finished with 11. Drew Scarberry led all scorers with 18 in the loss.


Wheelersburg returns home Tuesday to entertain Ironton. The Mohawks welcome East in Tuesday’s battle between SOC teams.

Eastern 92, New Boston 39

Eastern had four players in double figures and nine crack the scoring column in a 92-39 SOC I win Saturday over visiting New Boston.

Ethan Leist led the Eagle offensive with 22 points, six rebounds and three steals, Josh Thacker’s double-double performance included 17 points, 12 rebounds and four assists, Garret Fitch had 12 points and five assists and Ben Hesson added 11 points and five rebounds. Tyler Shonkwiler’s 14 points led the Tigers.

Eastern entertains SOC I and Pike County rival Tuesday. New Boston hits the road Tuesday to play Ironton St. Joseph.

Peebles 70, Paint Valley 62

Peebles received a scare from host Paint Valley Saturday but prevailed 70-62 in Saturday’s nonconference action.

Beau Justice scored 26 of his game-high 34 points in the second half in the victory. Cody Ireton added 14 points and six rebounds while Brady Johnson finished with a career-high 13 points and five rebounds for the Indians, who were 20-of-22 from the free throw line. The Bearcats connected on 11 3-pointers on the night but were 1-for-5 from the charity stripe.

Peebles returns home Tuesday to play SHAC member West Union.

K’Lee McClurg’s 23 points led all scorers in Northwest’s 61-41 SOC II win Saturday over Waverly.

Darbie Jenkins added 17 points in the victory. Bri Wiget led the Tigers with 17 points while Hannah Martin and Laiken Smith each pulled down seven rebounds.

The Mohawks welcome Valley for Monday’s SOC II makeup contest. Waverly entertains Portsmouth in Monday’s nonconference action.

The Oaks entertain Fairland in Monday’s nonconference action, a possible district final matchup between potentially the two top-seeded teams in the Rock Hill sectional.
