Before playing a single inning of her senior campaign, Jordyn Pennington has decided where her career will be heading — the Minford Falcon has committed to Shawnee State University.

“I chose Shawnee State University because they have a reputable program and excellent coaching staff,” Pennington said in an e-mail to the Daily Times.

Pennington knows her work ethic won’t be an issue for the Bears.

“During my freshman year, I plan on bringing my hard work and dedication on and off the field,” Pennington said.

During her junior campaign, Minford had a 17-5 record. Pennington hit .333 with 16 runs batted in while scoring 12 runs. Pennington was named to the first team Southern Ohio Conference II list while winning the outstanding Co-defensive player of the year award and receiving all district honorable mention.

Pennington is an all-around athlete as she has a three-year letter in Volleyball and will have a four-year letter in softball.

However, despite the individual accolades, Pennington prefers to talk about the Falcons’ success.

“Our team performs well together,” Pennington said. “We are one unit and we support each other through all of the ups and downs.”

Away from the diamond, Pennington is a member of the National Honors society and will be graduating with honors. Aside from the curriculum at Minford, Pennington is also attending SSU as a post-secondary student. Pennington will be obtaining her bachelor’s degree in nursing.

Pennington is thankful for the support system around her as she embarks on new challenges.

“I would like to thank my parents for being my No. 1 fan and I would like to thank my coach Preston Messer for all of the work ethic, skills and values he teaches us on and off of the field,” Pennington said. “I am so glad I have been blessed with a coach who not only cares about us as ballplayers but cares about us off of the field as well.”
