Austin Adkins’ goal with 38:43 left proved to be the game-winner as No. 9 Northwest upset No. 8 Gallia Academy 3-1 in Monday’s Division II Southeast Sectional Quarterfinal boys soccer match.


The Mohawks also picked up goals from Dylan Amburgey and Gabe Howard. Stefan Lantzke had the lone assists while Drew Scarberry stopped 15 shots.


Northwest travels Tuesday to No. 1 Warren for a sectional semifinal contest.

SOC I champion South Webster had no troubles opening tournament play as the No. 2 Jeeps shut out No. 7 Chesapeake 5-0 on the strength of three first half goals and a pair of Alek Blevins tallies in the second half.

Tyler Sowards, Shane Zimmerman and Kahler Rockwell each scored in the first half while Zimmerman and Kyle Keaton each had helpers. Trevor Coriell only needed to make one save on the night for the shutout.

South Webster will host No. 6 Clay in Wednesday’s sectional final. The Panthers upset No. 3 West 2-1 in Monday’s action.

Shannon Curley’s successful penalty kick with 8:34 remaining lifted No. 6 Clay to a 2-1 win at No. 3 West in Monday’s Division III Southeast Sectional Semifinal.

Aaron Keyser opened the Panthers’ scoring in the second half thanks to a Mason Pelphrey assist while Michael Gleason made 17 saves. Zach Dials recorded the lone Senator goal in the first half. West loses Dials, Steve Matthews, Devon Yazell, Kyle Galloway, Richard Blevins, Nathan Spradlin, David Dennis and Juan Jose Hayek to graduation.

Clay travels Wednesday to No. 2 South Webster in a sectional final. The Jeeps shut out No. 7 Chesapeake 5-0.
