In a 5-0 vote Thursday by school administrators, the Ohio Valley Conference accepted Portsmouth High School to fill the spot vacated by River Valley High School.

The Trojans are contractually obligated to compete in at least one more season in the Southeastern Ohio Athletic League once they make the announcement in the next league meeting. Portsmouth joined the SEOAL in the 2006-2007 season. Since the Trojans joined the league, Zanesville, Athens, Ironton, Marietta and Chillicothe have left for other conferences or independence.

The earliest Portsmouth can participate in the OVC will be the 2015-2016 school year. The Daily Times will continue to update the day’s proceedings with reaction from PHS, OVC and SEOAL officials as they become available.
