MSC Release

COLUMBIA, Ky. — Shawnee State University’s Schuyler Jones and Emily Kuehn are the Mid-South Conference Women’s Soccer Players of the Week, conference officials announced on Monday.

The weekly honors are the first for both this season and second of Kuehn’s career. She also earned the honor on Oct. 8, 2012.

Jones scored in all three Shawnee State wins last week to earn Mid-South Women’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week.

The Ramnicu Valcea, Romania, sophomore forward concluded the week with four goals and an assist to help the Bears to its best start in the program’s history at 6-0.

Jones scored two goals in the Bear’s 7-1 win over Ohio Mid-Western College and added the game-winner in a 2-1 over Ohio Valley University. She concluded her week with a goal and an assist in a 4-0 win over Mid-South foe University of the Cumberlands.

With her week, Jones moved into a tie for first in the Mid-South in goals (7) and second in points (15). Nationally, she ranks 18th in the NAIA in goals scored and 31st in points.

Kuehn stopped 17 of 19 shots faced during the week to earn Mid-South Women’s Soccer Defensive Player of the Week.

The Circleville, Ohio, junior goalkeeper allowed a goal in the Ohio Mid-Western and Ohio Valley wins while combining for six saves. Kuehn posted a clean sheet with 11 saves in the shutout win over Cumberlands.

Kuehn leads the Mid-South in shutouts (4) this season and goals against average (0.33) — which is fourth best in the NAIA. She is second in the conference with 30 saves.

Shawnee State is tied atop the Mid-South standings with a 1-0 conference record. The Bears are the only unbeaten team in the MSC this season.

The next MSC Player of the Week award is scheduled to be announced on Monday, Sept. 23.
