The Waverly tennis team defeated its second Scioto County opponent in as many days Thursday as the Tigers claimed a 4-1 decision over Wheelersburg.


Waverly defeated Portsmouth Wednesday. The Pirates travel Saturday morning to Hillsboro.

Portsmouth Invitational at Elks Country Club

Chesapeake’s overall team score of 320 was eight shots better than host Portsmouth to claim Thursday’s Portsmouth Invitational at the Elks Country Club.

The Trojans took second place in the event while Wheelersburg was fifth (335), Piketon tied seventh (342) with Gallia Academy, Waverly checked in at ninth (344), Clay’s 376 was good enough for 12th, Western was 14th with a 409 and a 436 by Northwest rounded out the local scores at 15th place. Medalist and low local scores were unavailable at press time.
