PORTSMOUTH, Ohio – After obtaining double-doubles against both Northwestern Ohio and Asbury (Ky.) last week in victories as well as becoming the 29th player in program history to eclipse 1,000 points for her career, Ali Zieverink has been named as the Mid-South Conference’s Player of the Week for the third time as a member of the Shawnee State women’s basketball program, conference officials announced on Monday afternoon.

Zieverink, who wins the award for the first time in the 2015-16 campaign, used a 33-point, 12-rebound effort in last Monday’s 76-66 victory over the Racers – making 15-of-25 shots from the field – to get her brilliant week off to a roaring start.

On Thursday evening, Zieverink tallied up another impressive performance as the Bears took down the Eagles – who were ranked as the No. 22 team in the NAIA Division II realm – by an 83-68 tally in Wilmore, Ky.

During that contest, the native of West Chester, Ohio recorded 19 tallies and grabbed 10 boards to boot, while scoring the 1,000th point of her career with 9:47 remaining in the second quarter of play on the right block.

For the week, Zieverink averaged an incredible 26 points and 11 rebounds on 57.1 percent shooting from the field as the senior forward made 24 of the 42 shots that she attempted on the week.

With five games gone in the 2015-16 season, Zieverink is already setting standards that rival some of the country’s best players as the senior is second in the country in total scoring (123 points) and is third in points per game (24.6). The forward also ranks amongst the association’s top-20 in offensive rebounds per game (15th, 4.4), total rebounds (16th, 42) and field goal percentage (20th, 59.6) as Shawnee State has obtained a 5-0 start on the campaign.

Overall, Zieverink becomes the 29th player in school history to score at least 1,000 points for a career, with the senior’s total of 1,010 putting her in the aforementioned 29th spot on the all-time list.

If her current scoring average of 24.6 holds until the end of the season, the low-post player would be second on the school’s all-time list for points per game in a season – just one-tenth off of Erica Hayes’ 24.7 points per game set in the Bears’ national championship-winning 1998-99 season. Zieverink would also become the school’s all-time leader in offensive rebounds per game for a season if the aforementioned total of 4.4 holds up until the end of the year.

With her third career Mid-South Player of the Week award, Zieverink becomes the ninth player in school history to have won a conference player of the week award at least three times for a career.

The senior will try to defend the honor during the coming week against a pair of Mid-South opponents as Campbellsville, the No. 1 team in the country, comes to town to play Shawnee State on Thursday at 6 p.m. at Frank & Janis Waller Gymnasium. Following that bout, St. Catharine will come to Portsmouth two days later to take on the Bears in a 2 p.m. tilt at the same site.
