WURTLAND, Ky. — The United States Postal Service is releasing Medals of Honor: Korean War Forever ® stamps. Wurtland, Ky. resident, Erie West is among the 145 Medal of Honor recipients, and a special dedication ceremony will be held for West on Saturday, Aug. 9, at 11 a.m. at Wurtland Middle School.


According to Wurtland, Ky. Post Office staff, Erie West was presented the Medal of Honor for his actions during an ambush in Sataeri, Korea on Oct. 12, 1952. West is expected to be present at the ceremony to be held in his honor.


The ceremony is intended to honor all of the Korean War veterans, including Jim Collier, who is deceased. Collier was also a native of Greenup County, Ky. and is a Medal of Honor recipient.


The dedication ceremony will also include the unveiling of two Korean War Medal of Honor stamps. The event is free and open to the public.
