Jennifer Garrison, candidate for Ohio’s 6th Congressional District, secured the Democratic Party’s nomination Tuesday, and is now in position to challenge Congressman Bill Johnson for Ohio’s 6th District seat.
Concerning Tuesday night’s victory, Garrison issued a statement regarding her excitement and plans in moving forward.
“I’m very excited to receive my party’s nomination and to officially begin our campaign to defeat Congressman Johnson in November. Throughout this primary, voters have expressed their frustration with the dysfunction in Washington, and with Congressman Johnson in particular, for continuing down the same extreme path of voting to cut Medicare, allowing the government to shutdown – forcing prison guards and other public workers to go to work without getting paid - and generally failing to stand up for the families of Eastern and Southeastern Ohio,” Garrison said.
She attributed the results to the concerns that voters shared with her during the course of the campaign.
“The results tonight reflect what I’ve heard throughout the campaign. Voters are looking for a representative who has a record of bringing people together to achieve results – in both the public and the private sector – and who is ready to go to Washington to stand up for the seniors and working families of this district. Finally, I applaud my opponent, Greg Howard, for having the courage to stand for election and for adding another voice to the debate. I commend him for his campaign,” she said.
Garrison said her history of bringing people together is evident in her professional career and public service.
“I have a history of bringing people together and delivering results. As an attorney, I’ve conducted over 700 mediations where parties have been able to reach an agreement over 90 percent of the time. As a member of the Ohio House, I worked with Democrat and Republican lawmakers, as well as Governor Strickland, to bring new jobs to Southeastern Ohio and to build new schools. And, that’s the approach that I want to take to Congress.”
The 6th Congressional District includes all or parts of Athens, Belmont, Carroll, Columbiana, Gallia, Guernsey, Harrison, Jackson, Jefferson, Lawrence, Mahoning, Meigs, Monroe, Muskingum, Noble, Scioto, Tuscarawas, and Washington Counties. Garrison said her opponent Bill Johnson, incumbent for the 6th Congressional District, is not a part of the solution to the problems in Washington.
