The Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) has announced the weekend closure of Ohio 348, starting Friday night and lasting into Monday morning.
“We have a bridge rehabilitation project on 348, just east of 104. The project calls for a new bridge deck and approach slabs,” said Kathleen Fuller, ODOT District 9 spokeswoman. “In order to complete these staging plans, the contractors will need to close S.R. (State Route) 348 for up to three days. Currently, the closure is scheduled to take place the weekend of April 11, with the route closed to traffic beginning at 7 p.m. Friday, April 11, and the closure continuing until approximately 6 a.m. Monday, April 14. During this period of closure, motorists will be detoured via S.R. 104 North to S.R. 32 East to U.S. 23 South.”
Fuller said the work that is anticipated to be completed during the closure include, pavement work in anticipation of shifting traffic to one lane, when the route reopens.
“They have been working there setting up the signal. Crews have been coordinating the timing with the permeate signal at the Ohio 104 intersection with a temporary signal,” Fuller said. “Because we have a signal adjacent to this (construction project), we know there is potential for the traffic to get backed up. One of the things they are going to try to do is a couple of overnight closures of the road,” Fuller said. “They are going to do some preliminary work to set up traffic controls and shift pavement to the shoulder.”
Fuller said there will be another weekend closure that’s slated for later in the summer with the over all project wrapping up in the late summer. The estimated project cost is $2.061 million.
