A Coal Grove police officer was injured in a crash Wednesday afternoon. Patrolman Jacob Emnett was responding to a service call eastbound on U.S. 52 near milepost 9 in Lawrence County, when his vehicle lost control, slid off the left edge of the road, struck the guardrail and became wedged beneath an overpass.

Lieutenant B.L. Call of the Ironton Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol said the crash occurred around 4:10 p.m. and Emnett was transported by Lawrence County Emergency Medical Services to St. Mary’s Hospital in Huntington, W.Va., for what he described as precautionary measures.

U.S. 52 was restricted to one lane in both directions for approximately one hour. The crash remains under investigation by the Ironton Post of the OSHP.
