FLATWOODS, Ky. — According to the Greenup County (Ky.) Clerk of Courts office, four candidates, including two city councilmen, are seeking to be the next mayor of the city of Flatwoods.
Records from the Clerk of Courts office reveal filings by Joe Gray of Wheeler Street, and Ron Fields of Poplar Street, for the non-partisan seat in the primary. Both Gray and Fields presently serve on the Flatwoods City Council. The other candidates include Jerald Hicks of Beth Ann Drive, and Doug Spillman of Crestwood Court.
The Flatwoods Mayor’s position has been occupied for the last 30 years by Bobby Crager, who announced earlier in 2014 that he would not be seeking re-election.
“After 25 years of serving the citizens of Flatwood, I think it’s time, and my age, which I am 75, and I will be 76 when I complete my term. I just think its time to turn the leadership role over to someone else who might have certain philosophies that will keep the city progressing. I will be at home, and will be able to spend more time with my wife and family. I also have my church work, a couple of city organizations like the Lions Club,” Crager said.
