CHESAPEAKE — The Lawrence County Sheriff’s Office is withholding the names of two people who were found dead of gunshots Friday morning.

Lawrence County Sheriff Jeff Lawless said at 8:50 a.m. Friday, his office received a phone call of a possible death at a residence located at 1904 County Road 124 in Chesapeake. Upon arrival deputies reportedly discovered two elderly persons inside the residence deceased from apparent gunshot wounds. He said a relative arrived Friday morning to check on the couple and found the two in a back room of the residence, and notified the sheriff’s office.

While the investigation is in its early stages, Lawless said it appears the gunshot wounds were self-inflicted.

“We do not feel there is any need for the public to be alarmed,” Lawless said.

The Lawrence County Coroner’s Office pronounced the two dead at the scene. The names are being withheld pending notification of family members.
