Based on the weather forecast some communities have delayed Trick-or-Treat while others are using a wait-and-see method of choosing to delay or not.

According to the National Weather Service, on Thursday night there is a 100 percent chance of precipitation with amounts between a quarter a half inch of rain possible for the Portsmouth area.

As of Wednesday afternoon Scioto County, city of Portsmouth and village of New Boston has not rescheduled the annual event set for 5:30 p.m. - 7 p.m. Thursday.

Also, the city of South Shore, Ky. and Greenup County are moving forward with plans to hold Trick-or-Treat from 6 p.m. - 7 p.m. in the city and 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. in the county on Thursday.

When asked about the decision to proceed as scheduled with Trick-or-Treat, Scioto County Commissioner Doug Coleman said, “We’re going to roll the dice more or less. The weather people are telling us the system might be late getting here. I would hate to have to cancel it and do it Saturday because a lot of people have quite a few things going on and on Friday night we’ve got the (foot)ball games. I just hope we’re making the right call. Sometimes you’ve got to do what you’ve got to do.”

Coleman said if the weather turns bad on Thursday there could be a possibility the decision would be made to postpone the event.

“The only way that would be if it would start raining real hard and get real windy, we would have to make the call. Right now we’re going to go with what we got,” Coleman said. “If it got really bad out we would move it.”

Based largely of the risk of bad weather the village of Piketon and the city of Waverly have moved their previously scheduled Trick-or-Treat to Saturday, Nov. 2 from 5 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
