The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI sobriety checkpoint will be conducted from 9 p.m. to 2 a.m. tonight on U.S. 52 at Mabert Road, located in the city of Portsmouth.

Portsmouth Post Commander Lieutenant M.L. Gore said the Patrol will work in conjunction with the Portsmouth Police Department during the checkpoint. The OVI checkpoint, funded by fines from impaired drivers and other federal funding, is expected to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The checkpoint is in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols, which aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.

Gore said “If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink. Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.”
