The Adams County Sheriff’s Office has identified the two victims in a late Friday night fire that occurred in Franklin Township. A sheriff’s spokeswoman said the two were Lyle and Jane Lambert, but could not locate the ages of the two victims.
The Franklin Township Fire Department was called to the fire in the 2000 block of Cemetery Road shortly before midnight and arrived at the scene to find the house was fully engulfed in flames.
Two bodies were removed from that fire and transported to the Montgomery County Medical Examiner’s Office for autopsies.
“It’s still pretty early in the investigation,” State Fire Marshal’s Office spokesman Michael Duchesne told the Daily Times Monday. “Right now the cause is officially undetermined. We’re working with locals in Adams County on the investigation.”
Duchesne said investigators returned to the scene Monday, so he was hopeful more information would soon be available.
While no official cause has been listed, the Fire Marshal has all but completely ruled out some news reports that a meteor struck the house.
“I have had four reporters ask me about that this morning,” Duchesne said. “We have absolutely no indication that that is the case. I have seen it from a lot of different outlets. We have no reason to believe that that is the case.”
Assisting the Franklin Township Fire Department were Peebles, West Union, Scot Township, Wayne Township, Rarden and Sinking Springs fire departments.
