In her weekly Friday Letter to the Shawnee State University community Dr. Rita Rice Morris, President of SSU outlined some changes to some of the university’s offices.

Morris reported that some of the responsibilities and functions of two university offices have been realigned, resulting in the closure of two offices. The office community services and the office of outreach have been closed.

“Last year the Vice President for Student Affairs combined the offices of Career Services and Community Services and we began to integrate many of the activities of both of those offices into the new Success Curriculum housed in the University College,” Morris wrote. “The Center for Community Service has been eliminated and in a newly aligned Career Center, Nikki Karabinis is utilizing community service as a method for students to develop skills and experiences in preparation for work after they graduate. A number of the other activities formerly coordinated through the Center for Community Services are now being coordinated through the Office of Student Engagement.”

Morris also addressed the Office of Outreach’s closure.

“The Office of Outreach has been closed and several of its functions will be handled by other offices within the University. All conference planning and management will be handled by the Office of Events and Conferences which will be located in University Center 222 beginning in early October,” Morris wrote. “Cathy Mullins in the Office of the Provost is administering all P-16 grants and partnerships with regional schools. Workforce/Economic Development activities are being coordinated by Eric Braun through the Office of the President.”

Morris also announced that SSU Development Foundation Director will soon be taking on the roll of Special Assistant to the President for Government Relations.

“He will work closely with me in Columbus and Washington, D.C. and on regional efforts to address a workforce and economic development agenda,” Morris wrote.

She also wrote the, “Finance and Administration has begun a consolidation of Accounts Payable and Procurement Services to realize efficiencies and improve services.”
