The Counseling Center, Inc. will host the Fifth annual Natural High 5K Run/Walk Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013. Registration will begin at 8 a.m. Check-in and race-day registration at The Holiday Inn, 711 Second St. downtown. The race will is set to begin at 9 a.m.


Cassie Glock, Community Relations/Development Specialist for The Counseling Center, said the walk promotes healthy living.


“We want to promote healthy activities, as opposed to turning to alcohol or drugs and dangerous activities. The walk is about promoting a healthy lifestyle overall,” Glock said.


According to Glock,all proceeds from the Natural High 5K Run/Walk will go to The Counseling Center’s Prevention and Outreach Club, one of the oldest running youth outreach programs in the state of Ohio.


She said pre-registrants are encouraged to come to the spaghetti dinner and pick up their shirt and goody bag from 4:30-6:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 at All Saints Episcopal Church, 610 4th in Portsmouth.


“Primarily, the dinner is a way for those who register prior to Sept. 26, to pick up their tickets, their runner bibs, their goody bags. The price that they pay for pre-registration includes the spaghetti dinner,” Glock said.


Glock said the Spaghetti Dinner is open to everyone.


“The proceeds from the spaghetti dinner will go towards our Compass Point housing,” Glock said.


Glock said the first 100 people to pre-register by Sept. 26, 2013, are guaranteed a Natural High 5K T-shirt.


Divisions for the Natural High 5K Run/Walk include:


Ten and under, 11-14, 25-29, 40-44, 55-59, 15-19, 30-34, 45-49, 60-64, 20-24, 35-39, 50-54, 65+.


The race is divided into 13 divisions for each gender.


According to Glock, all race participants will return to the Holiday Inn after the race. Refreshments and fruit will be provided and the awards ceremony will take place.


Glock said top male and female runners will be awarded a trophy and a race bag filled with top of the line running gear. Award medals for the 5K run will be given for First,Second and Third place for each division.
