If you are a veteran with comments or questions about the Veterans Administration’s mental health care services, you might want to reserve a place at Tuesday’s event providing an opportunity for veterans, VA staff, and other constituents of Ohio’s Second District, to meet with members of the House Veterans Affairs Committee.
U.S. Congressman Brad Wenstrup (OH-2), a member of the House Veterans Affairs Committee, said the Committee on Veterans’ Affairs Subcommittee on Health, chaired by Congressman Dan Benishek, M.D. (MI-01), will conduct an oversight field hearing in Hamilton County, Ohio. The hearing, entitled “Making a Difference: Shattering Barriers to Effective Mental Health Care for Veterans,” will allow panels made up of constituents of Ohio’s second district, veterans, and VA staff to testify before Members of Congress about their experiences with the VA’s mental health care services and how effectively these programs are meeting the needs of local veterans.
Wenstrup said field hearings are an opportunity for local residents to take part in Congressional hearings outside of Washington, D.C. The Subcommittee on Health hearing will take place at 10 a.m. on Sept. 17 in the theater room of the Anderson Center located at 7850 Five Mile Road, Anderson Township, Ohio. It is open to the public. He said more information can be found at http://wenstrup.house.gov/Sept17.
“Southern Ohio has a robust community of veterans and service members. It is vital that we assess the mental health resources made available to them to ensure we are providing adequate care to those who have made sacrifices for our country. I truly appreciate the participation of Chairman Dan Benishek and the witnesses who will share their experiences with mental health care services,” Wenstrup said.
Prior to the hearing, Wenstrup will hold a Veterans’ Meet and Greet with Chairman Benishek to thank local veterans and service members and discuss with Chairman Benishek issues important to the local veterans community. Local veterans and service members are invited to join Wenstrup and Benishek at 9 a.m. for the meeting. RSVPs are suggested and can be submitted at http://wenstrup.house.gov/Sept17 or by phone at 513-474-7777.
