Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium will provide a free Department of Homeland Security-certified course on Mobilizing Faith-Based Community Organizations in Preparing for Disaster Oct. 18, 2013, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the OSU Extension South District office in Jackson.

The Non-profit organization, Rural Domestic Preparedness Consortium will offer a free eight-hour, instructor-led course which is a training program for Faith-Based Community Organizations representatives, emergency managers, and first responders from small and rural communities.

Jared VanArsdall serves as Marketing/Communications Manager for RDPC and said the course is also designed to mobilize Faith-Based Community Organizations and bring first responders and faith-based organizations together.

“What this course will do is bring first responders and faith-based organizations together, so that in the event that there is a disaster in their area they will already be one step ahead as far as being able to work together and expediting the recovery effort,” VanArsdall said.

VanArsdall said it was requested by the Jackson County Fire Department to bring the course to the Jackson area.

“Our program is nationwide and we provide training all around the country in all 50 states,” VanArsdall said.

The course is set to take place Oct. 18, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the OSU Extension - South District office located at 17 Standpipe Road in Jackson.

Each course participant must have a FEMA student identification, which is obtained through the FEMA website. Registration for the course is required, and must be registered by Oct. 4, 2013. Register online at https://www.ruraltraining.org/training/schedule/2013-1018-mgt405-jacksoncounty-oh-001/.
