Authorities say alcohol is a suspected factor in a fatal ATV crash that happened Sunday morning in Union Township.

According to the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, two red Honda ATVs, driven by William Baker and Michael Hertenstein — their ages and address were not provided — were traveling south on Arion Road in Union Township on Sunday. They collided in the southbound lane of Arion Road at about 1:30 a.m., and both riders were ejected from their vehicles.

Baker suffered fatal injuries, and was transported to Southern Ohio Medical Center where he was pronounced dead by the Scioto County Coroner. Arrangements are pending at McKinley Funeral Home in Lucasville, who reported that Baker lived in Lucasville and was 43 years old. Hertenstein and his passenger suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.

The crash remains under investigation by the Ohio Highway Patrol.
