The Scioto County Commissioners recently received communication from the Ohio Department of Taxation detailing the county share of permissive sales taxes for June 2013.

“That’s (the permissive sales tax) down $9,000 this month. We received $929,950 when compared to the same time last year we received $9,060.81 less. For the year we are $80,692 ahead of estimates,” said Mike Crabtree, chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners.

With the passage of House Bill (HB) 59 the states permissive sales tax rate is set to rise on Sept. 1. The legislation calls for the states’ sales tax to increase by one-quarter of a percent, to 5.75 percent. As a result the county’s permissive sales tax will increase one-quarter of a percent from 7 percent to 7.25 percent.

The county’s share of permissive sales tax for May was up $32,823 from May of 2012.

At a recent meeting of the Scioto County Financial Planing and Supervision Commission, an informational sheet was distributed comparing 2012 to thus far in 2013 permissive sales tax.

In November 2012 the county received $918,147.32 which was up $50,585.15 when compared to November of 2011. In December 2012 the county received 856,994.09 which was down $17,854.25 when compared to the amount brought in during December of 2011. In January of this year the county received $1,075,823.16 which was up $10,002.72 when compared to January 2012. In February the county reported receiving $825,075.68 which was up $21,792.18 when compared to February 2012. In March the county reported receiving $878, 204.66 which was down $14,730.81 when compared to March 2012. In April the county reported receiving $967,104.99 which was up $7,134.10 when compared to April 2012.

In 2012, then Chairman of the Scioto County Commissioners Skip Riffe reported the county’s permissive sales tax was $608,433.64 above estimates for the year.

“Of the 12 months, nine of them were up, three of them were down. Being up $608,000 for the year is still a great thing,” Riffe was quoted as saying.
