The Ohio State Highway Patrol announced today that an OVI sobriety checkpoint will be conducted from 6 p.m. to 2 a.m. tonight on Ohio 73 near Dry Run Road, located in Scioto County.

Lieutenant M.R. Gore, commander of the Portsmouth Post of the Ohio State Highway Patrol, said the Patrol will work in conjunction with the New Boston Police Department during the checkpoint. The OVI checkpoint, funded by fines from impaired drivers and other federal funding, is expected to deter and intercept impaired drivers.

The checkpoint is in conjunction with nearby saturation patrols, which aggressively combat alcohol-related injury and fatal crashes.

“If you plan to consume alcohol, designate a driver or make other travel arrangements before you drink,” Gore said. “Don’t let another life be lost for the senseless and selfish act of getting behind the wheel impaired.”
