ASHLAND, Ky. — Larry Pancake, of Russell, Ky., will host a release party for his new album entitled, “Fair Weather Friend,” on Saturday, July 19, 2014, at The Sky Tower at 1212 Bath Ave., in Ashland. Pancake’s album was engineered at 9Lives Records in Ashland, Ky.
With a music career that spans over a 20-year period, Pancake said he is excited about his new project and the release party, an event he is calling, “The Biggest Party of the Year.”
“This is my third studio album. There are 11 totals, and nine of them are originals. I did my first album recording in 2005, in Nashville, where I learned a whole lot. I did the second one in Huntington, and I did this one in Ashland, so this one has been many years in the making. I am excited about it, and will be glad to share it with everyone,” Pancake said.
He classifies his music as classic rock, and not the traditional sound of country music.
“It is a classic rock sound of country. All of my songs have a thread of truth somewhere. Everybody has a fair weather friend, someone that is not with in the bad times but only in the good, so there is true in the title of the album and title track,” he said.
He said one of the great things about his music is that people can relate to the message, and experience the passion he has for his music.
“I think that everyone can relate to my music because my songs tell a story. I think that you can feel my emotions in my music. If you play one of the songs, just wait, because the next song you may like. One song does not make an album, it is an eclectic group of songs that make an album,” he said.
According to Pancake, the “Fair Weather Friend” album can be accessed in a variety of ways, starting with the 9Lives record label.
“My music is distributed over 120 down loadable sites, like iTunes, Amazon, Rhapsody, Napster, all of the bigger names. We get very few hard copies anymore, the visual age is kind of killing out the CDs. If people want to get a copy of my CD, I would actually start with 9Lives. They can order a hard copy of the CD, or the digital on the 9Lives website,” he said.
He said his band is composed of local musical artists.
“I have used all local musicians from this area, most of them I have played with full-time.
Pancake will also showcase his talent, and share music from his new CD during the Portsmouth River Days, in which he is scheduled to perform with Eddie Money on Aug. 30, 2014.
“Eddie Money is a good friend of mine. I met him several years ago, and have performed with him as well, so River Days booked us together this year,” he said.
The album release party will be held from 7 p.m. until 11 p.m., doors will open at 6 p.m. The cost for admission is $10.
“I will probably do a 90-minute show during the party, so that I will be able to hangout and socialize with everybody. We will also play some dance music so that people can dance,” he said. “This event is open to the public, everyone is welcome to come.”
