If you have written a song you would like to pitch, or would like for someone in the country music field to hear your voice, you’re invited to stop in at the Southern Opry in Lucasville on Saturday. Bring a CD, lyric sheet, or other pertinent material with you if possible or just drop by and enjoy the music.
This Saturday (June 21), at 7 p.m. there will be a night of music with local favorites as well as independent recording artist Donna Cunningham. The main attraction for the evening will be Allen Karl, CEO and founder of Century II Records, one of the top Indie labels in Nashville, TN. Karl is a recording artist and singers who are signed to the label include names such as Jean Shepard (Slippin’ Away”) and Jim Ed Brown (“Pop a Top Again”), Helen Cornelius (“I Don’t Want to Have to Marry You”), Bobby G. Rice (“You Lay So Easy on My Mind”). Cunningham, a Scioto County native, is also signed to Century II as recording artist.
Karl will sing a few songs and also spend time speaking with anyone interested in recording and/or songwriting. He has been in the country music business since the age of 14 and was with Wanda Jackson the night she wrote the classic country hit “Right or Wrong” backstage during a show. He has toured with such artists as Patsy Cline, Johnny Cash, Skeeter Davis and Faron Young just to name a few.
Karl has toured Japan, Europe, Canada and the United States. In the last 3 years alone, Century II has had 14 #1 songs on the Indie Charts, worldwide. Wayne Hodge of Indie World recently called Century II the leading independent record label in traditional country music. Karl is a member of the CMA (Country Music Association), NTCMA (National Traditional Country Music Association); founded the Traditional Country Opry, and is also a member of six other Country Music Associations.
