Six-thousand dollars in drugs and $400 cash have been confiscated in the arrest of four Columbus residents by local authorities.
Portsmouth Police Chief Robert Ware and Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said four individuals have been arrested on drug charges by the Southern Ohio Drug Task Force.
At about 2:59 p.m. Monday, task force officers conducted a traffic stop of a vehicle in the 1900 block of 23rd Street in Portsmouth. The vehicle was reportedly occupied by28-year-old Orlando C. Smith, and 28-year-old Vernita S. Williams, both of Dancer Place Columbus, Ohio, 26-year-old Thomas Smith of South Ohio Avenue, Columbus, and Ronald E. Fields, age 21, of South 22nd Street, Columbus.
Police say after Portsmouth Police Department canine and task force member, Dark, alerted on the vehicle, a search of that vehicle and occupants was conducted.
Officers said they seized approximately 47.9 grams of suspected crack cocaine, approximately 7.2 grams of tar heroin, with a total street value of approximately $6,000 and almost $400 cash.
All vehicle occupants were arrested and charged with trafficking and possession of cocaine, felonies of the first degree, and trafficking and possession of heroin, felonies of the third degree.
All arrestees were placed in the Scioto County Jail and were arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court on Tuesday morning.
