MINFORD — It was a chocolate lover’s dream at the home of Amanda Vanhoose, in Minford. Vanhoose opened her home to Roxana Mortimer, who conducted what is called a Dove chocolate-tasting party, equipped with a variety of chocolate delicacies for attendees to indulge in.

The popular chocolate brand, Dove — which is a division of Mars Incorporated — launched Chocolate Discoveries in 2007. This venture allows individuals to sell the Dove chocolate products at venues they call chocolate-tasting parties.

The Dove chocolate-tasting event was conducted by Roxana Mortimer, a Dove Chocolatier, in Vanhoose’s home.

“It’s actually an opportunity to taste Dove Chocolate products, its a chocolate-tasting party. Dove, the well known Mars company, has a line just for Chocolatiers, to sell in-home products. What I do when I have a party, is set up a menu with a host, and we taste different products from the line that we have,” Mortimer said.

She said the chocolate parties are fun-filled events, and opportunities to sample quality chocolate items.

“I just have a great time with everyone that attends. We had chocolate martinis, of course they are non-alcoholic. There was barbecued chicken with the chocolate rub and barbecue sauce. There was also the sweet and spicy dip, its a chocolate sweet and spicy dip. We had sea salted caramels, and a white smoothy dip. These are just some of the products that we offer,” she said.

The event host, Vanhoose, attested to the great time that she and the other participants had.

“It was just great. We really enjoyed this event, and all of the products were really good. One of my neighbors is also becoming a Chocolatier as a result of the party,” Vanhoose said. “We didn’t have many people to attend, only six, but we purchased $400 worth of the products.”

Mortimer said the chocolate parties typically do not take longer than about one hour.

“They usually last about an hour and a half, it just depends upon the questions that people have,” she said.

Mortimer has worked for Dove for two months, and said she enjoys it immensely.

“Its amazing. They offer so many rewards for the Chocolateers. I have earned books, an rolling cooler. I have received there different sets of chocolates that they have sent me just from the sells that I made,” she said. “I have also received gift cards from Office Depot, gas cards. They have treated me wonderfully.”
