Betty Hamer walked out of her apartment at Riverview Retirement Center, on Market Street in Portsmouth, Friday morning to a mountain of soap staring her down.
“Most of the old ladies are on walkers, but I’m not, so I’ve been getting the blame for it,” Hamer joked.
Hamer said she just recently made the move to Riverview six weeks ago and she loves it.
“I love the community and socialization of other ladies and eating lunch over there for $2; a big plate of lunch for $2, you can’t beat that.”
Hamer said that now when she gets done eating lunch she can step outside and take a bubble bath in the fountain.
“The first thing I saw was the big pile of white foam and I just thought, my gosh, where did this pile of ice and snow come from? I knew it was going to turn cold, but I didn’t know it was going to be that cold! This is something to laugh about,” Hamer said. “We all have to laugh and enjoy, especially in our older years. We simply have to enjoy something and I just got a kick out of it.”
