Hallmark Home Care on Gay Street in Portsmouth held a yard sale Saturday for a cause that is near and dear to their hearts.
“This is for the American Cancer Society Relay for Life team,” office manager Kathy Ellis said. “It is held every year in June and we have our own team. We have two yard sales a year just to raise the money for that. All proceeds go directly to Relay for Life.”
Directly behind the Hallmark building tables were covered with everything from stacks of clothing to household goods and knick-knacks. People simply pulled their cars over and began to go through the merchandise. There was even some bargaining going on, but most people were driving away with their newly-acquired treasures.
Ellis said a mixture of co-workers and people who just wanted to donate to the cause.
“All of our staff and even ex-staff members come in and help put it together,” Ellis said. “We have a team which consists of employees and their families or friends; whoever they choose to bring, and they all participate in the Relay for Life.”
