Updated 2:45 p.m. Friday A deceased individual was found in a burning car Thursday evening after sheriff’s officials received a report of a loud explosion on Browning Road in Paint Township.

While the identity of the person is still unknown, Highland County Sheriff Richard Warner said Friday that the vehicle was in the driveway of a residence, and was registered to that residence.

A preliminary autopsy report is anticipated, Warner said, but a final determination cannot be made into what occurred until the final reports are received from the agencies involved in the investigation.

Warner said Friday that his office is working with the prosecutor’s office, the coroner, the state fire marshall and the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to identify the deceased person and determine the cause of the fire.

Warner said the sheriff’s office received the call of a loud explosion and vehicle fire in the 7000 block of Browning Road at about 6:19 p.m. Thursday. The Paint Creek fire department and sheriff’s deputies responded to the scene.
