Portsmouth Police have caught a registered sex offender the Scioto County Sheriff’s Office says failed to register. The apprehension occurred Wednesday afternoon.
“He was at 1304 Apartment D, Union Street in Portsmouth,” Scioto County Sheriff’s Captain David Hall said. “Portsmouth PD got him for us. We got a tip and I call them (Portsmouth Police) and they just went over there and checked on him and he was there.”
Arrested was Benjamin T. Mitchell, 24, who had been wanted on a felony four charge of failure to register and probation violation from the Adult Probation Office and Scioto County Common Pleas Court.
Scioto County Sheriff Marty V. Donini said authorities had been actively pursuing Mitchell, and believed he might have relocated to the Oak Hill, Ohio area. As a result of that information, he said his office had been in contact with the Oak Hill Police Department.
Mitchell was convicted in 2013 for Unlawful Sexual Conduct with a Minor. Mitchell will be arraigned in Portsmouth Municipal Court Thursday morning. He also has Scioto County Common Pleas Court Order, which means he will remain in jail.
“I also want to thank Adult Probation because they have been very helpful in the various places where we were looking for him,” Hall said.
