RUBYVILLE — Leach is a household name to residents of Rubyville. Clyde Leach, the owner and barber of Leach’s Barber Shop has been cutting hair at the location for 50 years, and he is not tired yet. Leach’s Barber shop in Rubyville has been in Rubyville for 75 years, where Leach’s father Jim Leach was also barber for 25 years until Clyde finished Barber School.

Leach said he has accumulated many fond memories over the course of his career.

“I remember one day many years ago, I cut 44 heads in one day. It was a 16-hour day, and that is the most that I have ever cut,” Leach said.

Floyd Arnold has been a regular customer at Leach’s Barber Shop for more than 50 years. He said Leach is more than a barber to him.

“I have always enjoyed his friendship. We are practically family,” Arnold said.

Leach said his barber shop has always been family-oriented.

“We have a family-type business. We’ve had generations from different families come here over these 75 years,” Leach said.

Donald Lykins, 65, said he has patronized Leach’s Barber Shop since his childhood.

“I’ve been coming here ever since I was a little kid, I reckon. My dad always brought us, and this is the only place that we ever got our hair cut,” Lykins said. We always liked coming here. He’s always done a good job.”

Lykins said Leach has been helpful in the community as a barber.

“He always helps out at the rest homes, and gives them hair cuts after he gets done here. He’s been a good barber. I don’t know what we’re going to do when he quits,” Lykins said.

Leach, who is now 75, said he does not plan to retire from barbering any time soon.

“I’m going to stay with it as longs as these guys want me to, and until I can no longer do it,” Leach said.

Leach’s Barber Shop’s hours of operation are Tuesday through Friday from 9 a.m. until 1 p.m.
